, in the house, the rosa parks bill that came to fruition today was sponsored by congressman jesse jackson jr. of illinois. mr. jackson, like mr. kerry, was not around to see the unveiling of the rosa parks statue, and that's because jesse jackson jr. resign his seat in congress amid first health worries and financial worries and ultimately last week plead guilty to misappropriating campaign funds for personal use. because jesse jackson resigned his seat, in a matter of weeks somebody new is going to be there to replace him. late last night we found out who that person is likely to be. last night democrats in the second congressional district in illinois nominated robin kelly as their candidate for that seattle. they picked her by a big margin, too. she got 52% of the vote compared with 24% for her nearest challenger, former congresswoman debbie halvorson. again, because the second district is such a deep, deep blue district, whoever wins the democratic primary is pretty much expected to win the general in a couple of weeks and to become the nation's newest member of congress. former congress

the presidential race. and we have news to report about that race. it's for congressman jesse jackson jr.'s old seat in illinois, which he resigned. it's a heavily democratic district. whoever wins the democratic primary a week from tonight is widely expected to win the seat. that's why at the outset, 17 different democrats said they would like a chance at this one. 17. however, over the weekend that primary field got less crowded in a significant way when illinois state senator toi hutchinson, one of the front-runners, dropped out of the race. the important context here is this. new york city mayor mike bloomberg's superpac has spent $2 million and counting on pro-gun reform ads in this district. on friday, the pac launched this ad, calling out toi hutchinson by name for having an "a" rating with the nra. the other under pressure for the same reasons is debbie halvor son, who also got an "a" rating from the nra. debbie halvorson responded by including gun safety as an issue for her campaign. there it, the second thing on her issues page, gun control and gun safety. debbie halverson also posted
